On July 3rd, The Society resumed the series of popular 4ball Matchplay contests with the British Golf Collectors’ Society and held at Cavendish G .C. since 2008, for the MacKenzie Kist.
This year several Society team members led by Cavendish Captain Jeff Haddon, decided to play the BGCS at their own game – with 100 year old Hickory shaftedclubs.
In spite of generous handicap adjustments, the result on yet another sublime day in the Peak District was a win for the Collectors, captained by President Chris Walker, by 4 matches to 2. Will the fashion for hickory golf catch on at Cavendish? Don’t forget that the course was designed by Dr, AlisterMacKenzie before the use of steel shafts was approved by the R&A at St.Andrews. Will the clock be turned back for the next fixture?
We will have to wait and see!
