September can be an uncertain month for the weather but the Society was blessed with a delightfully mild and sunny day for the playing of the annual Leefe Cup at Harrogate Golf Club. The course is a mature tree-lined venue with extraordinarily slick and subtle greens, definitely not the place to expect a good card on first playing.
With that in mind, few players did themselves justice but whatwas lacking in quality was easily compensated by the sheer enjoyment of the occasion.
The Club went out of its way to make us very welcome and dinner was excellent. After dinner, Richard MacKenzie, a member of the Society as well as being a senior member of the Club, described the impact of his namesake on the golf course, although those slippery greens rather said it all. Thanks go to RichardMackenzie for his help with the day and to David Quinney for his impeccable organisation.
