The Society was invited by the club to play a Fourball Betterball match on July 4th. as part of the celebrations commemorating the opening of the club at Easter 1925.
At 5721 yards from the medal tees the course, designed by Mackenzie in the era of Hickory shafted clubs and Haskell balls and unaltered since, does not require the power golf of today’s professionals such as deChambeau nor McIIroy. However, it presented a memorable experience for the amateurs in the match as they experienced a day of tempestuous westerly winds and blustery showers.
The hosts demonstrated their abilities to handle the playing conditions and overcame the Society team by 41/2 matches to 11/2
