On 7th September 2025 Low Laithes GC hosted the Medallion as part of their centenary celebrations. The weather forecast was decidedly mixed, but only a short rain shower was suffered on a fine afternoon for golf. The course was in top condition despite the dry summer and, whilst not as quick as they can be, the greens were true and consistent, leading to excellent scoring.
After a superb carvery meal, Low Laithes President and club legend Paul Browning welcomed all visitors and gave a history of the course and role of Dr MacKenzie before handing over to Society Committee member Iain MacInnes to announce the winners and Captain Graham Brooks to present the prizes.
Best Lady was Janet Parkes (19) from Garforth on 36 points, with best Gent Colin Stephenson (14) from Bury with 41 on CPO, narrowly beating David Jackson (+1) whose gross 66 was just 3 off the course record. More on David later.
The last two winners, Sitwell Park and Bury, were just outside the prizes on 74, but runners-up in a close race were Hazel Grove B (Phil Baines, Matthew Hall, Marc Cookson) with 75, a winning score most years.
The furthest travelled team were Hadley Wood, but their journey did not affect performance as Club Captain Paul Dackombe, General Manager David Jackson and young gun Jake Shepherd won the day with an impressive 80 points. Captain Paul thanked the hosts and the Society for a fantastic day and promised to defend the trophy next year.
Finally, the hosts for next year were announced as Sand Moor GC on Sunday 6th September 2026.
Our thanks go to the Centenary Committee and officers of Low Laithes, whose organisation made it a memorable day for all. The course, facilities and hospitality were a credit to all at the club.
